Take a Look Inside The Hijrah: The Journey That Changed History

Sometimes the best way to understand what a book has to offer is simply to open it and see where it takes you.

In this short video, I read through the table of contents of The Hijrah: The Journey That Changed History and give you a glimpse of the journey the book follows.

Although the title focuses on the Hijrah, the story begins well before Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and Abu Bakr as-Siddiq (radiallahu anhu) set out from Makkah.

To understand why the Hijrah mattered so deeply, we first need to understand what came before it: the beginning of Revelation, the early Muslims, the opposition of the Quraysh, the persecution in Makkah, the migration to Abyssinia, the Year of Sorrow, Ta’if, the pledges at Aqabah, and the careful preparations that eventually made the journey to Yathrib possible.

And the story does not end when the Prophet ﷺ arrives.

The book continues into the building of the new Muslim community in Madinah and through the events leading to the Battle of Badr, showing how the Hijrah became far more than a journey from one city to another. It marked the beginning of a new stage in the history of Islam.

That is one of the things I most wanted to do with this book: help readers see how all these events connect.

The sirah can sometimes be presented as a series of separate stories that many of us have heard at different times. But when we follow them in order, each event helps us understand the next. Decisions make more sense. People become more real. And we begin to see the extraordinary combination of faith, patience, courage, careful planning, sacrifice, and trust in Allah that shaped the early Muslim community.

The Hijrah: The Journey That Changed History was written to be accessible whether you have studied the sirah before or are discovering it for the first time. It is especially suitable for readers who want to understand the early history of Islam without feeling that they need a great deal of background knowledge before they begin.

Along with the main story, the book includes maps, explanations of important people and places, helpful appendices, and detailed historical references for readers who would like to explore further.

If you have ever wanted to understand not only what happened during the Hijrah, but how and why the Muslims reached that extraordinary moment in history, I hope you will enjoy this book.
