How did tribal loyalties and systems of protection affect the early Muslims? How did Islam reach Yathrib before the Prophet ﷺ himself arrived? Why were its people ready to welcome him? And how did a divided town begin to become Madinah?
The familiar events of the Sirah are brought together as one connected story: the courage of the earliest believers, families enduring persecution, the journey to Abyssinia, the years of boycott and loss, the secret meetings at Aqabah, the careful preparations for migration, the days in the Cave of Thawr, the journey north, the arrival in Madinah, the building of a new society, and the events that eventually led to Badr.
The story does not end with the battle. It also looks at Badr’s aftermath and what that victory meant for a community that only a few years earlier had been unable even to defend itself.
